Frederick "P.D." Lorenzo Hopkins, 94, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023. He was born September 21, 1928 in the Glory community in Wake County to the late William Robert Hopkins and Mary Elizabeth Mitchell Hopkins.
He graduated from Knightdale High School in 1949 and honorably served his country in the US Army. He was a life-long member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. P.D. never met a stranger, he had many friends and was an avid golfer.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, March 31, 2023 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 8400 Poole Road, Knightdale. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 30, 2023 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Herring Hopkins; daughters: Melodie Smith (Jerry), Jennifer Berry (Greg); step-children: Jeff Peele (Dawn), Phyllis Neal; grandchildren: Rachel Smith, Michael Smith, Luke Smith, Nathan Berry, Dillon Berry, Matthew Neal (Morgan), Christie Amburn (Nathan), Christopher Peele (Brenda), Derek Neal (Bailey Purdue); five great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred H. Wall; a host of special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Anne Wall Hopkins; brothers: Mack, John, R.B., Harley and Joe Hopkins; sisters: Sybil Hopkins Ellis, Erdis Hopkins Hunkin, Garnetta Hopkins Pearce.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or Bethlehem Baptist Church.
