WENDELL Garnetta Hopkins Pearce, 92, of Wendell, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, November 30, 2015. Born on July 3, 1923, in eastern Wake County, she was the daughter of William Robert and Elizabeth "Lila" Mitchell Hopkins.

J. C. "Jake" Pearce, her husband of 58 years, predeceased her as well as her parents and siblings: Joe, Sybil, John, T. A. "Mack," Erdis, Louise, and Harley.

Survivors include her daughter Susan Pearce Nevitt (Paul) of Wilmington, son James R. Pearce (Valerie) of Tarboro; grandchildren David Pearce (Katie) of Germany, Jonathan Pearce (Erin) and Jacob Pearce of Raleigh, Joshua Nevitt (Natalie) of Fayetteville; great-grandsons Leland and Jacob Nevitt; sister, Mildred Wall (Harry) of Garner, brothers R. B. Hopkins and F. L. "P.D." Hopkins (Anne) of Knightdale; and many special nieces and nephews.

Garnetta and husband, Jake, were outstanding partners in their successful farming operation until they retired. At that point she worked for Elderhaus until her own retirement. Garnetta was a person of strong faith who joined Hephzibah Baptist Church in 1943 and always remained active in church ministries including WMU, Bible School, and teaching Sunday School. She was a dedicated member and leader in the Wendell Extension Homemakers Club for 67 years. Family and friends always looked forward to feasting on her fried chicken, delicious vegetables, and ever present cakes and pies. It has been said if "Southern Cook" was in the dictionary, her picture would be beside it. She loved growing flowers that graced her home and harvesting vegetables which she shared with friends and family. Garnetta loved her Lord, her family, her community, and the land that sustains us.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Dean Blakeley, Dr. Brookes Peters, and the staff at Golden Living Center in Tarboro, NC. for the loving care she received.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hephzibah Baptist Church building fund. The funeral service will be held 2 pm, Thursday, December 3, at Hephzibah Baptist Church, 1794 Wendell Blvd., Wendell, NC; visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. Interment will follow the service at the church cemetery.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday at her home.
