Mose was one of twelve children of Henry Casner and Jincy Jane (Fields) Casner. Henry Casner died in 1847 in Marion Co., IA. In 1852 the widowed Jincy Jane Casner took her family to Oregon. After living in Oregon for twenty-three years, most of the family then migrated to Yavapai County, Arizona. Mose Casner and his brother, Riley Casner, were well known in Yavapai County.

Mose married Alice Meade on Dec 6, 1891 in Flagstaff, AZ. To this union was born five children (Aaron, Luckey, Rachel, Edna, and Belle). Alice left Mose and moved to California – never to return. She took the three daughters with her. The two sons remained with Mose.

While the grave marker says Mose died in August 1912, his death certificate shows he died 10-19-1912. His death certificate says he was born in Oregon; however, this is incorrect. The Casner family was originally from Missouri and according to land records out of Livingston County, Missouri the family was living there in 1937. The family then migrated to Iowa. In 1852, the family then migrated from Iowa to Oregon. It is unlikely that the informant on Mose's death certificate was aware of the history of the family migraiton.
