Louis Michalk was born in 1906 in Thorndale, TX to Charles Wilhelm Michalk and Marie Elizabeth Winkler-Michalk. He is a descendant of Wendish grandparents that migrated to the U.S. from Lusatia (Eastern Germany) in the 1850s. He moved to California as did some of his other siblings and his Mother, settling in Visalia and continued the tradition of farming.

Louis married Emma Augusta Hagedorn in Visalia Aug 1931. Together they had six children: Emma Marie, Louis Jr., Caroline Bethany, Henry, William, and Elaine.

Conflicting death dates. Louis died in Visalia Jul 1, 1988 according to at least one source (Ancestry.com?) and was buried in Visalia Cemetery.
