MICHALK, Rudolph of near Moody. Age 79. Died September 1, 1984, the victim of a kidnapping and shooting (see picture of newspaper article). Memorial services held (Sunday) at The Grove, St.Paul Lutheran Church. Pastors Ray Weber and Theodore Griesse officiated. Rev. Wilburn Michalk gave a personal tribute to his father.


Rudolph was born February 1, 1905 and grew up in the Thorndale area. On February 12 he was baptized by Rev. A.W. Kramer at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale. 14 years later, on June 9, 1919 he received his confirmation from Rev. Fred Steltzer at St. Paul.


Rev. Fred Steltzer is the same clergyman that would unite him and Adele Handrick in marriage on March 23, 1932. After their marriage, the couple relocated to The Grove and then in 1953 they moved to Taylor's Valley south of Temple. And, finally, in 1977 they moved to their present home in the Stampede community.


The marriage of Rudolph and Adele was blessed with 5 sons (Orville of Moody, Wilbern of Giddings, Nolan who preceded him in death in 1977, Floyd of Riesel, and Larry of Miramar, FL), 3 daughters (Florence Winkler of Angleton, Eudora Weiser of Copperas Cove, and Yvonne Meissner of Hutto), 29 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.


His wife preceded him in death in 1983.
