Earldean Patrick Mart began his adventure in life on August 8, 1923 on small acreage west of Fairmont, Minnesota. Earl was the third son and seventh child born to Nick and Lorretta (McNally) Mart. Three sisters would later be born into this family. He began his adventure in Heaven on August 25, 2013.
On December 31, 1949, he was united in marriage to Ruth Hageman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Armstrong, Iowa They resided on a farm on the south shore of Iowa Lake. That farm is now the Iowa Lake State Park. This location was the source of many of Earl's adventures with many friends and family over the years. The family moved from Iowa Lake in the spring of 1963. They would eventually move to 909 2nd Avenue in Armstrong where they lived until the time of his passing.
Besides farming, Earl worked at Art's Way Manufacturing for 27 years until his retirement in 1988. For most of his years at Art's Way, he was a service person. His service calls took him and sometimes his family on adventures all over the United States as well as Canada, Europe, and Israel. He later worked in the parts department until his retirement. After retirement, he worked for several farmers in the area as well as helping out driving for a variety of businesses in the area.
His tales of his adventures were mainly that of hunting and fishing. These tales were shared up to the day preceding his death. Earl was also known to play baseball in his younger days as well as golf later in life. One of his most memorable comments during one of these adventures was during a fishing trip to Lake of the Woods. He had just caught a very large walleye. Based on the previous trip, he was wondering if he needed to catch and release this one. He turned to his three sons and asked, "Do I have to put this SOB back?" The answer was no. This fish was mounted for the memories.
