Mrs. Obbink Dies at 41

Mrs. Robert Obbink, 41, of Armstrong died this morning at her home in Armstrong. Death was attributed to cancer. She had been ill for the past four months.

The former Betty Mart was born Nov. 9, 1925, at Fairmont, Minn., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas W. Mart. She attended East Chain and Armstrong schools. March 16, 1949, she was married to Robert Obbink at Carroll. She worked with her husband in the Armstrong Hatchery for 17 years. Prior to that, she was employed by the Art's Way Manufacturing Co. at Walcott, Ind., for two years.

Mrs. Obbink was active in the PTA, Legion Auxiliary, Wednesday Club, and various charities. Her husband is a former Armstrong mayor. Mrs. Obbink was a member of the First Methodist Church in Armstrong, where she was active in the choir and Sunday School, and an official member of the church board.

She is survived by her husband; three children at home, Peggy, 16, Scott, 12, and Brian, 11; and her mother, Mrs. N. W. Mart of Armstrong. Also surviving are six sisters, Mrs. Albert (Margaret) Gorteski of St. Charles, Minn., Mrs. George (Marie) Blomstrom of Elmore, Minn., Mrs. Anthony (Helen) Grabianowski of Armstrong, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Wagner of Fairmont, Mis. Gene (Jerry) Helgason of Armstrong, and Mrs. Peter (Phyllis) Goodnature of Garner; three brothers, Francis of Utica, Minn., and Clinton and Earl Mart of Armstrong; and 30 nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Obbink was preceded in death by her father. Family services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Slaba-Reese Funeral Home in Armstrong, followed by public services at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church, Rev. Herman Smith and Rev. Roger Tappmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Wednesday and until 11 a.m. Thursday, when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of public services.
