Josephine was one of five sisters who moved from western Poland to Webster, Massachusetts. She later moved to Lowell with her husband and settled there. For the last six years of her life, she resided in Worcester. Her four sisters stayed in Webster. There were at least another sister and 2 brothers who lived in Poland, as well as their mother, Agnes (Malek) Bury.
Josephine's name is also sometimes spelled as Josefina/Josefa, Nowatzki/y, or Bura/Berry.

Josephine Nowatzke died Tuesday evening at Worcester. She was a former resident of this city and for the past six years resided in Worcester. She is survived by her husband, Theodore Nowatzke; four daughters, Mrs. Warren Neatock and Miss Catherine Nowatzke of Gibraltar, PA, Miss Victoria Nowatzke of Quincy and Mrs. Joseph Reid of this city; two sons, John Nowatzke of Quincy and Peter Nowatzke of the United States Navy, and three sisters; Mrs. Frances Kleczka, Mrs. Gertrude Nowacki, and Mrs. Cecilia Sterczala, all of Webster. The body was removed to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Reid, Jr., 26 Linden Street, by Undertakers Higgins Bros.
