Nathan Edward, Sr., was the youngest child of Henry Eli and Sarah Elizabeth Williams Moore. He was still in infancy when his father passed away.

He married his first wife, Mary Rebecca Treadway, on Nov. 29, 1899 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Their marriage produced five daughters (Cora, Bertha, Julie, Gertrude, and Fay) and four sons (Henry Eli, Roy, Robert, and Woodrow).

After Mary's death, Nathan married Sarah Mae Shuping (also seen as Speece) on Aug. 22, 1928. Their marriage produced four sons and four daughters. Their youngest son, Lonnie James passed away after a brief illness at twenty-two months of age.

Nathan passed away from prostate cancer at the NC Cancer Institute in Lumberton, NC.

The following was taken from the Feb. 22, 1968 edition of THE STATESVILLE RECORD & LANDMARK:

Nathan Moore, 89, of North Wilkesboro died Wednesday morning in North Carolina Cancer Clinic in Lumberton.

Born in Wilkes County on Nov. 13, 1878, he was the son of the late Henry Eli and Elizabeth Treadway Moore. A retired farmer, he had also worked with Turner and White Casket Company.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sarah Mae Moore, of the home; seven sons, John W. Moore, Nathan E. Moore, George T. Moore and Eli H. Moore, all of Statesville, Robert and Roy Moore, both of Olin, and Woodrow Moore of Ridgeway, Va.; eight daughters, Mrs. Lessie Lambert of Spray, Mrs. Kathy Brooks of Greensboro, Mrs. Dorothy Walker of Hayes, Mrs. Gertrude Cloneger of California, Mrs. Faye Walsh of Flint, Mich., Mrs. Polly Hawkins, Mrs. Cora Moose, and Mrs. Bertha Benge, all of Statesville; and 74 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Northside Baptist Chapel. Rev. Charlie Poole and Rev. David Creech will officiate. Burial will follow in the City Cemetery in North Wilkesboro.

The body will remain at Warren-Miller Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 o'clock until 9 o'clock.
