GRAY: Jeanie Briley Eakins passed quietly on Saturday, August 04, 2012, after a brave and lengthy battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 432 Forest Hill Road in Macon on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at 11:00am, with reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Jeanie requested the service be casual attire.

Mrs. Eakins, age 68, resided on Turnerwoods Road in Gray. Retired from Macon Iron and Paper Stock, she devoted her life to her husband and caring for all God's creatures which she demonstrated through her caring for neglected animals and love of wildlife.

Mrs. Eakins was preceded in death by parents: Doris Fielder Briley Batchelor and Lawton Briley; brother: James Lawton Briley; and by her stepfather: Thomas Batchelor.

Mrs. Eakins is survived by her husband: John Eakins of Gray; uncle: Joe Briley, Sr. and her aunt: Lily Briley, both of Gray; aunts and uncle: Virginia Clements of Macon and Nettie and Ray Jones, all of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; extended family: Joe and Patrice Briley, Jr. and Jason and Deborah Briley, all of Gray, Brandyn Briley of Atlanta, Judy Eakins and Cathy Sexton of Macon, David and Carrie Sexton of Bonaire, Jackie McCommons and Mary Jo Horne, both of Hawkinsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201 or to the FURever Friends Humane Society, Post Office Box 2276, Gray, Georgia 31032.

Bridges Funeral Home and Crematory in Gray has charge of arrangements.
