Bea graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High School in 1941. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary at Fred Rueping Leather Co. in Fond du Lac. For a short time, Bea and Phil lived in Huntington, Indiana, eventually returning to Fond du Lac to raise their family. Our mom loved to sew and made clothing for her children, many doll clothes, work aprons for Dad, pillows, and bags for camping gear. As an avid bowler, she enjoyed camaraderie with the other women in her bowling leagues, volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, worked in the library at Theisen Jr. High School, and as a teller at Fond du Lac Community Savings & Loan for 13 years.
Mom and Dad loved to travel and visited every state, including Hawaii, and Canada. They spent many winters in Lake Wales, Florida. During retirement, Bea volunteered at St. Agnes Hospital and the rectory at St. Mary's Church where she was a long-time parishioner and member of the Altar and Rosary Society. After Dad's passing, Mom enjoyed many outings with her siblings, extended family and close friends which included attending daily Mass, Friday fish fry and Sunday dinners.
Bea is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Joseph) Jirak of Rockton, Illinois; Jeanne (Michael) Peterson of Stow, Ohio; Mary (Steven) Garbisch of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; Nancy (James) Lichtenwald of Neenah, Wisconsin and her son, John (Janice) Pilkenton of Sherwood, Oregon; ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by a brother, Thomas (Agnes) Yungwirth of Green Bay, Wisconsin and brother-in-law, Patrick Switlik of Fond du Lac. She was predeceased by her parents; husband Phil; and four sisters and four brothers.
Our family sincerely thanks the nursing staff, aides, and hospice at SSM Health for their many years of loving and compassionate care for our mom.
