Wayne Lewis Cowart, 73, of Hopkins, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Arthur Gordon and Rena Lee Cowart, and the husband of Linda Hogue Cowart. Wayne was an active member of Elgin Congregational Holiness Church, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and the drummer in the church praise band. Wayne loved the Lord and dedicated his time and talents to serving Him. He loved life and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Atlanta Braves fan. Wayne also had a passion for woodworking and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by his sons, Brian Wayne Cowart (Lisa), Shawn Michael Cowart (Danielle), and Travis Lee Cowart (Stephanie); his grandchildren, David Wilson Cowart, Taylor Maureen Cowart, Elijah James Cowart, and June Marie Cowart; as well as his siblings, Arthur Lee Cowart (Regina) and Diane C. Parker (David).

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Gordon Cowart, Brenda Gail Stevens, and Linda Renee Cowart.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:30pm on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Elgin Congregational Holiness Church, officiated by Rev. Judith Luke. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 2:30pm.
