George W Krise, Sr Passes Away
Pioneer Settler of Chest Twp Succumbs to Pneumonia
On Wednesday morning at 12:50, Mar 7 "was called from this life into the life beyond from his home in Chest Twp, Cambria County. Mr Krise was stricken with the fatal disease about 3 weeks ago and although a man of exceptional physique, it was evident from the first that he could not survive owing to his advanced age and that the grim reaper was hovering over and that soon we would be bereft of one whom we had all learned to love and venerate, not by family ties alone, but also from a record of his sterling qualities and noble character. For several years past his descendants have been wont to assemble in the old homestead in annual reunion and bonds of friendship, formed and fostered on these occasions have been cemented our love for him and makes our loss greater.
Nearly sixty years ago Mr Krise settled at the location of his late home in that was then a wilderness, and by undaunted courage and strenuous labor succeeded in clearing off the timber from a large tract of land and in making a home for his cherished ones. By constant application he has maintained that home up to the time of his demise and the Death Angel overtook him late in life at the scene of his earlier endeavors.
Since beyond the recollection of any of his surviving children, Mr. Krise was an earnest worker in the church and at an early age afflilated himself with the United Brethren church of Beaver Valley, of which he was member at the time of his death. He served that church in various official capacities during his active career as a member thereof and was a source of much encouragement and help to the younger members of the church, who recognized him as and able leader and competent teacher. By his death his children suffer the lose of a kind and indulgent father, his neighbors a willing friend and the church and community a pillar and benefactor.
