He started his scholastic career at the White Bluff School. World War II was in full swing so at the beginning of the eleventh grade in the fall of 1944, with hopes of a more rigorous education and military training Charles was enrolled into the Peacock Military Academy (PMA) in San Antonio. He graduated from PMA in the 1945 and enrolled in Texas A&M College. He majored in Animal Husbandry and took Military Science as a part the Corps. He was an active member in San Angelo Aggie Club, Saddle and Sirloin Club and Aggie Rodeo Club. In his senior year he was second in command of Air Force Battlion B Flight and graduated in the spring of 1949 just before his twentieth birthday. He joined the Air Force in February of 1954. He and Peggy finished his military service in Germany. As they were leaving Air Force Base Hospital with their new son, Chuck, the doctor said to them "See you next year" to which Charles replied "no, we are rotating."
Charles and Peggy Lou Parker were married on October 3, 1953. Charles was loving, caring father and husband. He actively supported his children's interests while managing a ranch and fulltime job. He retired from the USDA in 1989. He very much enjoyed his retirement. He was always looking outside the box in his ranch management. He was excited about the new "Old" management methods that he read about in various periodicals and actively shared that information with Chuck and Lonnie. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and Peggy traveled to watch many volleyball, basketball and baseball games. He also coached his grandchildren that were participating in 4H shooting sports.
