He farmed.

He made and drove a school bus to Byrd School for the community.

Owned and operated a Blacksmith Shop and Grist Mill back in the 1920's and up until 1946. These were located on what is now Marion County Hwy 22, just south of Mt. Joy Church (Round Top). His house was across the road from the Grist Mill.

After moving to Hamilton in 1946, their house was located on the corner of 3rd Ave & 4th St. SW. He would meet with other men outside the Court House and exchange news. His son, John W. Cook, opened a Coin operated laundry business in Hamilton in 1963 and he then stayed with that business and kept it operating, until shortly before his death.
