Marion was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion in Draper.
Marion D. Fairbourn, age 77 beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away April 13, 1998 in Sandy, Utah.
He was born January 18, 1921 in Crescent, Utah a son of Leslie Delroy and Harriet Rosetta Smith Fairbourn; the second of nine children.
He married Laura A. Butterfield in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 9, 1947. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Marion was an active member of the LDS Church. His activities include councilor in the bishopric, Bishop, High Councilor, member of the Stake mission presidency, Stake 70"s Quorum, President and missionary in the New England States Mission. He also participated in the Church Service Program of Utah State Prison and retired from Salt Lake County Public Works.
Marion was an avid reader, he enjoyed traveling with Laura and was a farmer at heart.
Surviving are his wife Laura, Sandy; Children: Melvin L. (Kathy)Murray,; Sterling D. (Maria) Lyman, Wyoming; Renae (Michael)Emery; West Valley, City; Scott A. (Susan). Clinton, Ut. 12 grandchildren and one great grandson;
brothers Merle L. (Fern), Jerry E. (Irma Rae) Ross (Judi),
sisters: LaVerl (Glade) McKee; Mary Nokes; Ila Mae (Lowell) Dahl; Vauna (Fred) Moosman; brother-in-law Frank L. Holt. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Roylance Holt; brother-in-law, Kenneth E. Nokes.
Funeral Services Friday April 17, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Crescent Park Stake Chapel, 11350 So. 1000 East, Sandy, Utah. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday at the church from 9:45-10:45
a.m. Interment Crescent Cemetery.
He was a great inspiration to all who knew him and will live on in their memories forever.
