Father: Leslie "Les" Delroy Fairbourn
Mother: Harriet Rosetta "Rose" Smith
Spouse: Lowell C. Dahl
Married: 23 August 1949
Place: Salt Lake LDS Temple
Early Life: Born the sixth child, Ila Mae did her share of work on the farm until she graduated from high school. Her siblings (some deceased) are: Merle Fairbourn (Fern), Marion Fairbourn (Laura), Roylance (Frank Holt), LaVerl (Glade McKee), Mary (Ken Nokes), Vauna (Fred Moosman), Jerry Fairbourn (Rae) and Ross Fairbourn (Judy). She grew to womanhood in Crescent, Utah, now the South Town Mall area.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Ila Mae was employed by the Deseret News Press as secretary to the General Manager. She had some wonderful experiences working closely with many of the General Authorities of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She received her patriarchal blessing under the hands of Church Patriarch, Eldred G. Smith. Ila Mae met her future husband, Lowell C. Dahl, when they were seniors in high school; after a three-year courtship; they were married on August 23, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After their marriage and Lowell's graduation from, the then, Utah State Agricultural College; they traveled and lived in several different areas of the United States. They moved 14 times in the first 10 years of marriage as Lowell pursued his career as an Engineer for the United States government and a short tour of military service. Prior to moving to Orem, Utah, they resided in Boise, Idaho, for 29 years, where their children grew to adulthood. Ila Mae had an infectious smile and was liked and loved by all. She made friends easily and was a model of compassion and charity. She served in LDS Church stake and ward Relief Society leadership, the Young Women organization and in the Primary organization; as well as, many related teaching and supportive callings. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Late in life, she served as an LDS missionary with her husband in the Idaho Boise Mission. She was an avid quilter and all of her granddaughters have a very special quilt made by Grandma for their baptism, and every grandchild and great-grandchild received a baby quilt when they were born; she even left a large supply in storage for the great-grandchildren not yet born. Ila Mae was also a dedicated family history researcher and provided thousands of names to family for temple ordinances. During her final years, she remained positive and cheerful in spite of her many years of being homebound. Her children remember her for her intuitive role as mother. She always seemed to know how to handle the trying events that arose as she raised a family. She laughed easily but was known to be quite firm at times. She often quoted from Mosiah in the Book of Mormon when her children were contentious and usually the children would get the message and recite it with her. Close family, extended family, friends and relatives were constantly remembered with notes and greeting cards from her vast supply that she kept on hand for any occasion. Although all will miss her, her loved ones are happy that she has now progressed to another realm in her eternal journey. Ila Mae Fairbourn Dahl departed this mortal life December 14, 2013, from causes incident to age.
Survived By: Her children: Randy Dahl (Cynthia), David Dahl (Gayla), Janell (Zan Draney), Annette (Grant Hirsche), Sandra (Brian Merrill) and Jason Dahl (Amy); 29 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; and several siblings.
