Jack Conley Burnette, 81, of Asheville, died Saturday, December 18, 2004, at Aston Park Health Care Center.
Mr. Burnette was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Carl F. and Deeme Griffin Burnette. He was also preceded in death by a brother Carl Vonno Burnette.
He served under General Patton during WW II in the Third Army, Company F, 97th Infantry Division and was a Bronze Star Recipient and a member of VFW Post 891. Mr. Burnette retired as an engineer from Southern Railroad after 38 years service. He was a 50-year member of the West Asheville Masonic Lodge and a member of Abernethy United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife OF 58 years, Catherine Lewis Burnette; one daughter, Carolyn Burnette Rogers and her husband Jack Brown Rogers of Charlotte; a grandson, Jack Brown Rogers, Jr. ("Brownie") and a granddaughter Catherine Ashley Rogers (Ashley); two brothers, Charles E. Burnette and Wayne C. Burnette and several nieces and nephews.
Military honors will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council at Green Hills Cemetery.
