Catherine was born on September 1, 1780 and was the daughter of John SNAVELY b. Oct. 1759 Smythe County, VA. She was married about 1796 in Wythe County, VA. She with her husband Jacob witnessed the birth of America. He was born in an English Colony but by the time he was twenty years old, he lived in a United States where "The Bill of Rights" were being added to the new constitution.Catherine and her children followed her husband Jacob 1500 miles into the frontier half-way across the continent. It took a lot of courage to traverse the wilderness in the early 1800’s. They had left behind not only their family and friends, but the civilization that they knew to enter a land filled with Indians, wild animals and who knows what all else.
