Mrs. Clem's death had been expected hourly for many days. Three years ago she became afflicted with heart trouble, but it was not until last December that her condition became critical. Just a week ago she suffered a relapse and one of her daughters, Mrs. Hugh Sharon, with her two small children, hurried to her bedside from San Diego. It was during her visit here that the older of the two children died suddenly and was buried just a week ago today in the Hermosa cemetery. Mrs. Clem's grave is made beside that of her young grandson.
Mrs. Clem was born in Collinsville, Illinois, near East St Louis, 55 years ago. For many years she lived there and in Oklahoma. Twelve years ago she came to California and made her home in Colton. The family has played an active part in the life of the city since that time, being especially prominent in Methodist church circles.
Mrs. H. G. Crilly and Miss Ruby Clem are the only ones of the seven surviving children who make their home in Colton. Mrs. Hugh Sharon of San Diego, Mrs. Ed Wisham of San Francisco, Mrs. Thomas Atchley of San Jacinto, Verne Clem of Marshall, Oklahoma, and Orrin Clem of Trenton, Missouri, are the remaining five. Three other children born to Mr. and Mrs. Clem died in infancy. Two sisters of the deceased, Mrs. G. B. Cater and Mrs. J. S. Flinn are living in Colton; a brother, W. H. Bailey, makes his home in Kansas City.
The funeral services were held at 10 o'clock this morning from the Knopsnyder chapel. Rev. Samuel Hughes, assisted by the Rev. I. L. Oakes, officiated. Interment followed in Hermosa cemetery." Colton Daily Courier (Colton, California), September 17, 1917
