MRS. EDWIN CALLAM
Mrs. Elizabeth Callam, an honored pioneer of Pawnee County, died at the home of her son, Owen Callam, south of Pawnee City, Saturday of last week, aged 94 years.
Funeral services were held from the Owen Callam home Monday morning at 10:30 and interment was made beside her husband in the Briles cemetery, south of town.
Elizabeth Hitchcock was born in England August 26, 1828. She was united in marriage to Edwin Callam in England. To them were born seven children, five of whom are still living. Mrs. Emily L. Kingham of Smith county, Kans. Owen, Ebb and Caleb Callam of Pawnee City, and Albert Callam of DuBois. Mary Elizabeth died in infancy and Mrs. Eva Koegele died a few years ago.
Mrs. Callam was a member of the Baptist church in England and was a lifelong reader and student of the bible.
She and her husband came directly from England to Lincoln, Nebr., in 1872, and moved from there to Pawnee county in 1873. The home has been here for more than 49 years. They knew all the joys and privations of pioneer life.
Her husband died in 1912, and since that time she has walked the lonely path of widowhood, finding companionship with her children. She leaves a number of grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The bereaved family has the sympathy of many friends and neighbors.
