Enlisted January 29, 1864 as Private with Co. K, 99th Pennsylvania Infantry. KIA at Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA.

On May 12,1864, the Union troops made a general assault on the Confederate line and, Initially, they moved the rebels back fairly easily. The enemy, however took up a new position to the rear and concentrated their power there. Vicious fighting, sometimes with bayonet and clubbed musket, spilled back and forth in the no man's land. Each gained a little ground but was pushed back off of it. There was no decisive winner, but Gen. Lee evacuated the position that night. Pvt. Convery was severely wounded and died of his wounds.
