Pearl Eugene George, 75, known to most as Tommy, Washington, died in Washington on Tuesday, November 28, 2000.
Tommy was born in St. Clair on May 2, 1925, daughter of Eugene Benjamin Hansel and Clara Belle Hansel, nee Hults. On January 5, 1945, she married Stephen Henry George Sr. and had three children.
Tommy is survived by one son, Stephen Henry George Jr. and wife Charlotte, St. Clair; two daughters, Michele George, Washington, and Pamela Jo Beckham and husband Joe, Killeen, Texas; two brothers, Donald Hansel and wife Peggy, Cathedral City, California, and Robert Hansel and wife Carla, Sullivan; four sisters, Viola Lapeer Lewis and husband Bob, Kathryn Saling, Thelma Flora, Georgia Caldwell, all of St. Clair; three grandchildren, Steve George and wife Melinda, Tim George and wife Beth, and Candas George, all of St. Clair; two great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Tommy was preceded in death by one brother, Wilbur Hansel, and by two sisters, Wilma Light and Marilyn Davis.
Tommy was of the Baptist faith and was a member of First Baptist Church in St. Clair. For many years, Tommy was employed by Meramec Manufacturing Company and Carmo Shoe Factory in Union.
Visitation was held after 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 30, at First Baptist Church, St. Clair, with Rev. Milo Haynes and Rev. David Brawley officiating. Interment was in Prospect Cemetery, Lonedell. Memorials may be made to Cedarcrest Manor Activities Fund, Washington.
