Viola Mae Lapeer Lewis, 84, St. Clair, passed away Monday, May 26, 2003, in St. Clair.
Mrs. Lewis was born July 8, 1918, in St. Clair, the daughter of Eugene Benjamin Hansel and Clara Belle Hansel, nee Hults.
On May 6, 1944, she was united in marriage to Robert Deitz Lapeer and they were blessed with several years together.
On Oct. 18, 1991, she was united in marriage to Robert V. Lewis.
Mrs. Lewis was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, St. Clair.
She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella for over 25 years.
During Mrs. Lewis' working years, she was employed at International Shoe Company as a fancy stitcher.
Mrs. Lewis lived in Detroit, Mich., for about 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Clara Hansel; her husband, Robert Lapeer; one brother, Wilbur Hansel; and three sisters, Wilma Light, Marilyn Davis and Pearl George.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by her husband, Robert V. Lewis, St. Clair; two brothers, Donald Hansel and wife Peggy, Lakeside, Calif., and Robert Hansel and wife Carla, Sullivan; three sisters, Kathryn Saling, Thelma Flora and Georgia Caldwell, all of St. Clair; three stepgrandchildren; one aunt; brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral Mass was held Friday, May 30, at St. Clare Catholic Church, St. Clair, with the Rev. Paul Telken officiating.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Memorials to St. Clair Senior Center or Masses are preferred.
The Lewis family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
