James Walter Payne, 98 of Vinton, VA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
He was the son of the late Alfred and Mamie Payne.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Robertson Payne; brother, George Payne; sisters, Mary (Tootsie) Nelson, Barbara Nelson, Patricia (Patti) Gray, Rebecca Higgs; sons-in-law, Taylor Carter, and Ronald Webber.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Gloria Carter, Rita Mason, and Kathy Webber (Mark Hilton); son, Richard Payne (Bonnie); grandson, Kevin Carter (Kim); granddaughter, Heather Hartberger (Brian); great-granddaughter, Kasi Abell; great-grandsons, Tyler Oliver, Kaleb Carter, and Kollin Carter.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 am Friday, August 5, 2022, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Pastor Bryan Ratliff officiating. Internment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
