Rosa Opal Howard, 101, of Windsor, Missouri, died Tuesday morning, July 19, 2022, at Windsor Healthcare & Rehabilitation.
She was born March 13, 1921, in Brownington, Mo., the daughter of Johnny Lee and Minnie Emma (Dody) Boyd. On September 1, 1940, she married Forrest Walton Howard in Warsaw, Mo. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2002.
As a young girl, Opal grew up on the family farm in the Good Hope area of Bethlehem Township. She attended the one-room Freedom School with her six brothers and sisters and was on the softball team, playing first base. She then worked at Mattinglys in Clinton. After she and Forrest married, they moved to a farm near Windsor where she raised chickens, kept a garden, and took care of their three sons, Woody, Charley Bob, and Joe. The family moved to Independence, Mo., in 1953 and she worked at Woolworths. After moving back to Windsor in 1956, Opal worked at the International Shoe Factory in Windsor for 30 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, Windsor, where she helped in VBS, taught Sunday School, and participated in several ladies' groups. She was a TOPS Club member and treasured these friendships. Forrest and Opal enjoyed monthly "supper club" gatherings with friends. She was a good cook and fixed many large family dinners and enjoyed helping plan and attend family reunions. She enjoyed her grandchildren and family, making time to play games, fix her special molasses cookies, or sit and visit.
Survivors include 2 sons, Forrest L. "Woody" Howard, Calhoun, Mo., and Charles Robert Howard, New Haven, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Howard, Windsor, Mo.; 6 grandchildren, David Howard (Ronna), Gene Howard (Brandi), Heather Howard Homburger, Sheila Hadley, Shannon Howard (Lora), and Sarah Thompson (Wes); 14 great-grandchildren, Paige and Parker Howard, Hailey and Cody Howard, Charlie Payne, Charlie Homburger, Lauren Hadley, Erin Ahring (Ethan), Robb Hadley, Ashtyn, Hayden and Aubrey Howard, and Henry and Gray Thompson; a brother, Gene Boyd (Donna), Strasburg, Colorado; and many treasured nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Pastor Pete Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends before the service on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor.
