Joseph W McLallen, 83, a 51-year resident of the Lake Chelan area, died Thursday, April 14, 1988, at Colonial Vista Convalescent Home, Wenatchee.

He was born May 28, 1904, at Black Oak, Mo., the son of Tom and Mable McLallen. On March 31, 1928, he married Mildred E Leakey. They lived in Missouri until 1937 when they moved to the Lake Chelan area.

Mr. McLallen was employed in orchards and at Chelan Box and Manufacturing. In 1943, he bought an orchard in Manson, which he operated until 1963, when he and his wife bought the Applewood Motel in Chelan. They operated the motel until their retirement in 1975.

Mr. McLallen was a member of the United Methodist Church, a 25-year member of Manson Kiwanis and a member of Manson Grange No. 796.

Survivors include his wife at home; three daughters, Pat Armbruster of Manson, Bonnie Oestreich of Chelan and Enabelle Faidley of Susanville, Calif., a son, Jerry J McLallen, Monroe; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.
