Ernest J. Scalzi, Sr. of Berkley, MI for 75 years, passed away peacefully, July 6, 2022 at the age of 101 at home with his family at his side. He was born January 12, 1921 in Urbana, Ohio to Maria and Girolamo Scalzi.

Ernest is a WWII veteran who served in the Army throughout the European Theater and was wounded at the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a longtime member of Greenfield Presbyterian Church in Berkley, an active member in the Berkley VFW Post #9222 and the Berkley American Legion Post #374. He also enjoyed Karaoke and Dancing. Along with playing pool & horseshoes on leagues, he enjoyed tinkering in his garage. He also was Honor guard captain and Post Guard for the Berkley VFW for many years.

Ernest is the beloved husband of the late Irene (Dec. 17, 1998); loving father of, Ernest J. Jr. (Jennie), Frank (Donna), Richard (Lorraine) and Sherry (Jerry) Pelkey; dear grandfather of 13; great grandfather of 27; and great-great grandfather of 8; dearest brother of, Ruth Ross and the late; Anita, George, Margaret, Lucille, Frances, Catherine, Theresa, Anthony, Lena and John.

Visitation 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 Twelve Mile Rd. Berkley (Between Coolidge Rd. and Woodward Ave.) Funeral service 11:30 AM Monday, July 11, 2022 at the funeral home. Burial committal will follow at Roseland Park Cemetery with Army Honors.
