Roy was born in Viola, upstairs in his sister Jessie's house, to parents Robert Lee King and Lillie Mabel "Mae" Cooley King and was the last born to them, as well as their 7th son.

Roy's wife, Shirley King, and sisters, Opal Davis & Edna Campbell, survive him as well as his daughters : Juania Bishop (daughter Tara), Lynita Tate (husband Mike, 2 step sons and their children), Keisha Longwell (husband John, sons Thor and Noah), Tiffany Simmons (husband Shane, sons Seth and Sidney) and Step Children : Evangeline Archer (husband Jim, children Jamie, Joshua and Lindsay and their children), Theresa Donaldson, Sonia Davis (husband Robert) and Dwight Shaw (wife Sandra and daughter Helen Rose).

Awaiting him on the other side were his parents, RL and Mae (Papa and Mama King), as well as siblings : Inis Pack Crowe, Avery King, Osmond King, Jessie Watson, Robert Lee Jr (infant), Orval King, Warnie King and Ray King.

Roy was a pastor for most of his life. This does not make a person infallible, to be clear, but in later years his dedication to his service of God grew. For nearly 40 years, he and his wife (of 41 years), Shirley, lived in Aiken, South Carolina and ran Spirit Word Ministries. When Roy gave, he gave with his whole heart. It was revealed to him a few years ago that he had an inoperable brain tumor. While there could be something they could do surgically to stop the progress, which also (either cause or effect) created cervical spinal stenosis, it would require being fully dependent on life support for a great number of hours while they did this and untold amounts of money. Roy believed in full and complete healing outside of medical ways.

In recent months, his condition worsened. They were brought from SC to TN where Roy was placed in an assisted living facility temporarily. He had an incredible pain in his leg so they took him to the hospital, from there he was transferred to Nashville where the discovered congestive heart failure and before they could take him to surgery, he contracted covid. Once healed from covid, he was not in any shape for surgery so he was returned to McMinnville to the local nursing home (where his mother also passed) to recover. While Roy did recover most of his faculties, his condition had not really improved. In the week of his passing, he had stopped eating or drinking, hospice was called in and the family was asked to come visit. Ultimately, when he was alone temporarily, he chose to cross from this existence on to the next.

Sending much love and light to the family and those who loved him. He has many people, his wife, sisters, children, grand and great grands as well as nieces, nephews and friends who love and miss him.

...
There are a-many-a-story about Roy's younger years and there have been tales of siblings we are not yet aware of. As I said no one is infallible, I am mentioning this because it is possible they may reach out and try to find us (as has been done in the past). Roy was not very talkative about his past as he was "forgiven", so parts are spotty. We know he lived in Ohio when he was in his late teens and early twenties. There was a period in his twenties that he lived in Tennessee and Georgia, he had tales of living as an alternative persona Rick Kirby in Texas and then moving to California temporarily. In his late twenties and thirties he lived in Arizona as well. Then in later years in South Carolina. If you are questioning, feel free to reach out to discuss time lines.
