Earle W. Overton Jr. , 84, of
Birmingham, died Friday. He was a
member of Mountain Brook Baptist
Church, retired from Alabama By-Prod
ucts Corp. and a World War II veteran.
He was a member of the National Associ-
ation of Cost Accountants and a retired
life member of the American Society for
Personnel Administration. Private fu-
neral will be at 2:30pm. Monday at
Johns-Ridout's Southside, with burial in
Elmwood. Survivors: wife, Mrs. Eliza-
beth "Betty" M. Overton; son, Maj.

He served in WWII and retired as a Petty Officer First Class of the US Navy.

The story went that he was an old man joining the Navy at 31 yrs old. Everyone called him Pops. He was short, but he was a farm boy, so he was strong. He joined the Navy because the line was shortest, and they kept him behind a desk because he had gone to Normal School and knew how to type.
