Grace was the fourth of eight children of Frank Norman Shoudt and Anna Mariah 'Rita' Burroughs. She grew up in Upper Black Eddy and Trenton, Mercer Co., New Jersey. She looked like her paternal grandmother and was her maternal grandfather's favorite.

She was married twice. Her first husband was Elmer Edinger LaFevre, and they had two sons in 1934 and 1935. Her older son, Jack Burroughs LaFevre, died in 2002.

When Elmer died in 1947, Grace finished raising her boys on her own. She was lucky enough to meet Robert Roesch, who helped her with this endeavor, and they finally wed on Dec. 17, 1960 in Milford, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey. They enjoyed nearly 30 years of married life.

Grace resided in Milford early in her adult life, but then moved back to Upper Black Eddy. She loved her home, which was between the Delaware Canal and the Delaware River. She was a member of the First United Church in Milford.

Her hobby was découpage, and she also loved to bake for her family.

She had seven grandchildren, including Barry Neal LaFevre, and 12 great-grandchildren as of early 2008.

Grace was a lovely woman who cared a great deal about her family. Her early life was difficult. In response, she made herself a strong and positive influence on her grandchildren. She is very much missed.
