Helen June Mitchell McVey, 77 of Carlisle, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a sister, aunt and friend, departed this life on May 15, 2022, at the University of Kentucky after a long battle with cancer. Born in Nicholas County on April 7, 1945, to the late Robert Tony and Odie Gladys Jolly Mitchell. She was a homemaker and avis bingo player. Helen loved her yardwork, so much that she would mow at the crack of dawn in her gown and housecoat. The day she was told she had cancer again, she told the doctor, "Okay, I don't have time for this, I gotta go mow my yard" and she did just that. Helen is survived by four children: Harold McVey Jr (Holly Becker), Jerrard (Linda) McVey, Tina King (David Hopkins) and Kehla Castle (Jason Vice). Helen is also survived by a lifelong family friend Kevin Hatchett and her very best friend Roberta Morris. Eleven grandchildren' Joshua McVey, Kallie McVey, Matthew White, Jessica White, Kimberly (Austin) Fooks, Laura McVey, Allison King (Tyler Gibson), Hallie King, Maximus Bowling, Titus Bowling and Will Vice. Twelve great-grandchildren; Novalee and Colt Fooks, Hunter and Elizabeth McVey, Sophie and Hreyson Gibson, Laikynn White, Evelyn and Elsie White, Audrey Fryman, Braylee and John Wayne Halen. Two sisters' Anna SAPP AND Janice (Jerry) Lemons. Preceding her in death is her husband Harold McVey and her son Darrell McVey. Also preceding her in death are seven sisters and four brothers: Nancy Bell Mitchell, Minnie Frederick, Elsie Crawford, Sarah Mitchell, Wanda Mitchell, Ocie Tucker, Nora Bromagen, Robert Cecil Mitchell, Tilton 'Buddy" Mitchell, Walter Mitchell and Ollie Mitchell. Casket bearers are Harold McVey Jr., Jerrard McVey, Joshua McVey, Matt King, Jason Vice and Austin Fooks. Honorary casket bearers are Moss, Wally, Adam and Mickey Morris as well as all her nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Carlisle-Clark Funeral Home on Thursday May 19, 2022, from 6 – 9 pm. Funeral services will be Friday May 20, 2022, at 1 pm by Bro. Jerry Eubanks and Brenda Routt with burial following in the Carlisle Cemetery. Carlisle-Clark Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
