Lorna M. Warnke was born January 10, 1928, at Creston, Nebraska to John and Clara (Hellbusch) Becher. She was baptized January 29,1928, and confirmed on March 29, 1942, both at St. John's Lutheran Church rural Columbus. She received her elementary education at St. John's parochial school and was a 1946 graduate of Columbus High School.
Lorna did secretarial work for five years in Nebraska and Florida. On June 10, 1951, Lorna was united in marriage to Donald Warnke of Meadow Grove. She worked as a substitute postal clerk for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Until the last six years of her life, Lorna lived in Meadow Grove. She spent nearly one year at Prairie View Assisted Living in Tilden.
In December of 2016, Lorna moved to Country House in Grand Island, Nebraska so she could be near family. Her family is very thankful for the wonderful care she received for over 5 years from Country House and more recently Tabitha Hospice. Lorna had a strong faith in her Lord and Savior, knowing that heaven was her true home. She was active in St. Matthew Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Bible studies and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She served on the local library board for many years. Lorna was well known for her baking, cooking and sewing skills. Her coffee cakes (which she baked 1,000's of in her lifetime) was always a hit wherever she took them. Her grandchildren always expected them when they came to visit!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Warnke; a grandson, Nathaniel Warnke; three brothers, Arthur, Norvin, and Leonard Becher; and one sister, Viola Berends.
Burial in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery in Meadow Grove.
