Leonard Becher, 85 of Columbus, Nebraska, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Morys Haven Nursing Home in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Patrick Sparling and Rev. Kurt Ebert officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by The American Legion, Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 20 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Monday, March 21 from 9:30 AM until service time at the church, with a family prayer service at 10:15 AM. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran School or Church.

Leonard was born near Creston, Nebraska, on April 6, 1925, to John and Clara (Hellbusch) Becher. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church (14 North). Leonard went to parochial school at St. John's, and graduated in 1943 from Creston High School. He worked for Rogers Motors in Columbus from 1945 - 1946 and then entered the United States Army on April 12, 1946. He was honorably discharged on April 12, 1947. Leonard married Dorothy Preusker on October 20, 1946, in Battle Creek, Nebraska. After his discharge from the Army, Leonard returned to Columbus and worked at Weil Motor Supply until 1957 when he went to work for Dale Electronics where he retired from in 1990. Leonard was a dedicated member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he had served as a trustee, treasurer, and did volunteer work. He was a member of the American Legion, an Ambassador of Cottonwood Retirement Home, an avid Nebraska sports fan, and enjoyed his Monday night poker games.

Son - Steve (Caroline) Becher of Lenexa, KS
Daughter - Teresa Lange of Grand Island, NE

Son-in-law - Lloyd Lange of Grand Island, NE
