Lodi Newsman Howard Archer Dies Of Attack
LODI--Funeral services will be tomorrow in Gierhart and Wells Funeral Home here for Howard M. Archer, 49, news editor of the Lodi News-Sentinel. Archer suffered a heart attack Friday in the Florin Shopping Center in Sacramento and died about an hour later in Sacramento Medical Center. A native of Clayton, Ind., he was a graduate of the Indiana University School of Journalism. He served as a lieutenant with the U.S. Army Air Corps in England in WWII and received several decorations, including the Purple Heart. During his newspaper career, he was assistant publisher of the Gresham, Ore. Outlook and received the California Newspaper Publishers Association outstanding community service award in 1962.
Survivors include his widow, Dorothy, and a son, Matthew.
