Harry Clifford Edgar was born near Watford, Lambton Co., was educated in Preston Public School and the Galt Collegiate Institute. He first worked for Clare Bros. Ltd. foundry and then became accountant for E. J. Checkley & Co. private bankers. from 1900 to 1908 served as assistant to C. R. Hanning (Preston's Town Clerk). He became clerk in 1908 and remained until 1919. He established the H. C. Edgar Insurance Agency in 1896 which continues as Edgar Insurance Brokers Ltd.

Preston Business Man Passes Away - Preston - Prominent in civic and sport activities of Preston for many years. Hary Clifford Edgar, 64, died suddenly Wednesday after a short illness of pneumonia. A Conservative party member, he was active in the organization work of the party. He attended the nominating convention for the riding of South Waterloo only last week. Surviving are his wife, the former Kate S. Schlueter, one son, Frank, Preston, three sisters, Mrs. J. Landreth, and the Misses Florence and Ida Edgar, all of Preston, and one brother, Charles, also of Preston.
