RUPERT - Dorothy Deseret Cummins Nelson Peterson, 86 year old Rupert resident, died Thursday, August 24, 2000, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in St. George, Utah. She was born January 23, 1914, in Brawley, California, the daughter of Lowell Blaine and Minnie Sadie Knight Cummins. She received her education in Oakley graduating from Oakley High School, and later attended the Twin Falls Business College. She married Andrew Rex Nelson on December 1, 1932, in Oakley. They resided in Oakley until 1947 when they bought a farm and moved to Gooding. They were later divorced. While in Gooding, Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper at the Gooding Merc and at the Lincoln Inn. Dorothy was the Gooding L.D.S. Stake Chairperson of the Sociables Organization where she met Harold Avery Peterson. They were married on December 26, 1969, in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1994. Harold and Dorothy resided in Rupert throughout their married life. An active member of the L.D.S. Church, she had served as Relief Society President, Primary President, Junior Sunday School Coordinator, had worked in the Young Women's organization, and had served on a mission with her husband, Harold in the Tahiti Papeete Mission on the island of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. She enjoyed cooking, pie-making, quilting, gardening, writing, poetry, music, photography, traveling to various parts of the world, and found happiness in the simple things of life like nature and animals. She especially loved her family, her missionary Elders, had many wonderful friends, and enjoyed spending time with people. Survivors include six daughters, Luceil (James B.) Heuer of St. George, Utah, Velta (Eugene) Moe of Hayden Lake, Loah (Morten) Krahn of Twin Falls, Linda (Garry) Stevenson of Rupert, Lori Nelson of South Lake Tahoe, California, Susan Puckett of Rupert; three sons, Allan H. (Marlaine) Peterson of Torrance, California, Jay R. (Linda) Peterson of Logan, Utah, and Carl L. (Chris) Peterson of Gooding; a daughter-in-law, Gail Robinson of Idaho Falls; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Cummins of Arco; forty-four grandchildren and eighty great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 1994; a daughter, Anita Sadie Nelson; a son, Andrew Lenn Nelson; a sister, Luceil Cummins; two brothers, Russell Cummins and Virgil Cummins; a grandson, Terry Lynn Nelson; and a great granddaughter, Hanna Lavinna Moe. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 31, 2000, at the Rupert L.D.S. 7th Ward Chapel, 8th and G Street, with Bishop Russell Holland, officiating. Burial will follow in the Rupert Cemetery. Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, 221 W. Main Street in Burley from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Thursday.
