Mrs. Myrtle Joyce Beaver, age 90 of Mt. Airy passed away January 5, 2008 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Beaver was born February 21, 1917 in Surry County, NC to the late David Fletcher and Flora Gammons Joyce. She was retired from Oakdale Knitting, was of the christian faith and was a homemaker. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Tom Brintle, Mt. Airy, nine "special grandchildren and spouses", Jeff and Kim Brintle, Tazwell, VA, Monica and Clay Boyington, Jacksonville, NC, Lynn Defina, Jersey City, NJ, Mark and Alice Kirkman, Mt. Airy, NC, Daphne and Tony Wright, Lowgap, Timothy and Heather Kirkman, King, Kelly and Tiffany Kirkman, Hope and Kelly Bogue, Holly and Chris Gutherie all of Mt. Vernon, TX, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, two half-sisters, Vernice Hutchens, Mt. Airy, and Estelle Gordon, Pinnacle, two half brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Lillian Joyce, Pilot Mountain, Red and Mary Frances Joyce, Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beaver was preceded in death by her step mother, Vallie Watson Joyce, a son Treva Gray Kirkman and an infant son, Billy Gray Kirkman. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 8, 2007 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mt. Airy conducted by Rev. Ronnie Chamberlain. Burial will follow in the Midkiff Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12:30 PM Tuesday until time of the services at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
