OBITUARY: The American Citizen, Canton, Ms. 20 October 1883.
IN MEMORIAM:
It is our painful duty to record the death of James Monroe Anderson,Sr., who expired on the 13th inst. at his residence in this city. He had been a sufferer for many months, and had the best medical advice and the kindest, tenderest ministrations from his family and friends. On the Sabbath before his death he united with the Methodist Church and partook of the sacrament of the Lord's Supper with his family and the Rev. . L. C. Hunnicutt. He had the satisfaction of seeing several beloved members of his family who came from a distance to pay their last, sad visit. He was fully conscious of his condition and expressed a humble resignation to the will of God, and passed away peacefully, feeling no terrors of the 'grim monster.' He was 54 years of age, and had spent the greater part of his life in this community, where he had the respect of all who knew him, and had held the responsible office of County Treasurer for two terms. But he is gone and words cannot portray his many excellent characteristics nor soothe the disconsolate hearts of those so deeply bereaved. May the God of the widow and fatherless throw the ageis of His protection over the grief-stricken household.
