Daughter of Daniel Kirkland Griffis I and Imogene "Jane" Thornton. Granddaughter of Charles and Keziah Kirkland Griffis. Sister of: Naomi Griffis Mikell; Keziah Griffis; Nancy J. Griffis Thornton; John; Henry Jackson; Cecelia Griffis Altman Casteen; William D; Charles W; Ardella Griffis Thornton; Mary A. "Mozelle" Griffis Thomas and Sarah Isabell Griffis Murray. She had atleast two children by her cousin, William "Manning" Griffis: Daniel Kirkland Griffis II; Elizabeth A. "Lizzie" Griffis Thornton. She also had other children whose fathers are unknown: John "Silas" Griffis; Mary Jane Griffis; Julia Griffis and, possibly Paul Gober and Marie. Silas and Mary Jane were living with Pollie and her grandfather, Charles Griffis in 1880. She was living with her children Daniel and Lizzie in the 1900 census. Pollie was described by her granddaughter in a letter dated July 15, 1977: "She was a sweet hard-working woman and I loved her very much. She was never married. She got into trouble before she was very old." Her granddaughter also remembered Pollie teaching her how to "dip snuff" at a young age. The granddaughter (Vera Griffis Westberry) became sick and turned an awful shade of green. Vera's father and Pollie's son (Daniel Kirkland Griffis) became very angry at his mother for teaching his daughter a bad habit (that lasted until the end of her life).
Mary "Pollie" Griffis is buried in an unmarked grave on the Old Daniel Griffis Homeplace in K'Ville, Georgia.

Suggested edit: Paul Goober (also spelled in records as Gruber and Goober) was the son of Mary Alice Thornton Griffis Goober. Mary Alice Thornton was married to William Griffis (she is not the same woman as Mary Pollie Griffis, who was William's first cousin) before she married John Clayton Goober, who was Paul's and Myree (mispelled Marie) Gober's father. Myree's maried name was Strickland.
