Mr. Otto Baer. age 91, a former Gary resident., passed away Monday, April 14, 1980 at the Deuel County Memorial Hospital in Clear Lake.

Mr. Baer was born October 13, 1888 near Balaton, Minn., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Baer. He grew to manhood at Balaton and on February 22, 1916 he was united in marriage to Emma Loeck. They were married at St. Peter, Minn. He moved to the Gary vicinity in 1922 where he farmed and worked as a carpenter for many years. He retired in 1950 and moved into Gary. He and his wife entered the Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake in 1972. Mrs. Baer passed away in 1977.

He was one of two remaining charter members of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gary.

He is survived by four sons, Walter, Rudolph and Erwin of Canby, Minn. and Arnold of Madison, Minn.; three brothers, Henry of Balaton, Minn., Leon of Palo Alto.. Calif. and Albert of Seattle, Wash., four sisters, Mrs. Ella Thorson of Balaton, Minn., Mrs. Emma Sanders of Hampton, Va., Mrs. Helena Pahnisch of Portland, Ore. and Mrs. Hulda Bonitzer of Dolton, Ill. Also surviving are 16 grand- children and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.


Funeral Services


Funeral services were held Friday, April 18, 1980 at 2:00 p.m. from the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gary with Rev. Edgar Gieschen officiating. Hymns, "Jesus Lead Thou On" No. 410 and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" No. 200 were sung by the congregation. Mrs. Myrtle Shepherd was the organist. Casket bearers were Michael, Roger, William, Douglas, Dennis, Gerald and Gary Baer and Gordon Engesmoe. Burial was in the Grand View Cemetery at Gary.
