John was born in Detroit, MI on November 13, 1949 to the late Johnie Edward (Sr) and Thelma Harper Burton. He was also preceded in death by sister, Brenda Campbell and a brother, Dennis Burton.
He served in the US Army and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He loved his family first and foremost. He enjoyed his motorcycle, cars, woodworking, playing guitar and karaoke.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, two sisters, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
