Mom lived a long wonderful life. She was born to parents, George Israel Roach and Margaret Virginia Speight in Pitt County, NC. She was married on her birthday on 26 Mar 1952 in Grifton, , Pitt County, NC to Raddy Glenn Hughes.
She and her spouse lived for a period of time in rural Davidson County, NC. Two of their children, Jerry Curtis Hughes and Debora Vivian Hughes were born in Thomasville, NC. Her husband rejoined the military and they spent two tours in Germany, a tour at Ft Lewis, WA, and the rest at Ft Bragg, NC. Two other children were born in Germany.
When her husband retired they lived in Aberdeen, NC, and eventually bought a home in Hope Mills, NC where they lived the rest of their lives. She and her spouse were volunteers with the DAV, The Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, and the Red Cross as well as their church, Hope Mills UMC. Mom was state Chairman for the Ladies Auxillary of the DAV where she served proudly.
Her spouse Raddy Glenn Hughes preceded her in death on 19 Apr 1996 as well as daughter Debora Vivian Hughes on 14 Oct 2019, and a grandson, Timothy Keith Gaines on 23 Mar 1976.
She is survived by her biological children, Jerry Curtis Hughes, Pamela Kay Hughes Komlofske, and Annette Hughes; an adopted son (biologically her grandson), Daniel R. Hughes, her caregiver, and his spouse Marie; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 2 step-grandchildren.
Her funeral service is pending, most likely will be at Hope Mills UMC with burial to follow at Clarksbury UMC Cemetery where her spouse, daughter, and grandson are buried.
