Mr. Langston was born October 18, 1936, to the late J.C. "Jake" Langston and Bessie Lee Gilreath Langston. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service with over 35 years of service.
Affectionately known as the "walking mailman" in Trion, he walked the streets delivering mail through rain, sleet, or snow, walking a little over 14 miles a day. During his early retirement, he loved going fishing with some of the Langston boys at their special fishing hole in Villanow. He also enjoyed going to trade day, working on old clocks, and spending time with family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Gentry Langston; a son, Marty Langston; brothers, Jim Langston, Andy Langston, Jeep Langston, Charles Langston, Larry Langston, David Langston, Ralph Langston, Tubby Langston, and Steve Langston; sisters, Ruth Langston, Ruby Eller, Joyce Langston, Sybil Shields, and Jenny Rebecca Langston.
Survivors include his daughters, Robin (Nick) Kirby and Lori (Greg) Bearden; sons, Tim (Lori) Langston and Joe (Rena) Langston; grandsons, Dalton (Tiffany) Bearden, Jaxton Langston, Skylar Gammon, Marty Lichty, Gregory Bearden, Shawn (Angie) Bortner, and Eric (Grace) Caudill; granddaughters, Tara Smith, Lisa (Michael) Martin, Renee (Dean) Miller, Georgia Langston, Telisha Langston, Melanie Bearden, Traci Rogers, and Deborah (Jason) Childers; special great-grandchildren, Brantley and Prentice Bearden; sister, Nell Langston Thomas; 36 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, and his yorkie, Miss Kitty also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 13, 2022, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tyler Leming, Frank Bearden, William Rutledge, Nick Kirby, Donnie Gentry, and John Gentry. Charles Gentry will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Mr. Langston will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Sunday.
Due to the current health concerns for the community, those in attendance are asked to keep in mind the current guidelines and restrictions set forth by the C.D.C. as it pertains to social gatherings including the use of face masks and hand sanitizer.
