Jerry Martin Hoover passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 23rd with a Rosary at 3:45. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am Monday, January 24th. Both will be at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Norwalk. Fr. Dan Kirby officiating.

Jerry was born September 24, 1935 to Donivan G. Hoover and Winifred (King) Hoover, the first of 9 children. Jerry grew up and lived his entire life in the Spring Hill-Norwalk area.

After graduating in 1953 from Spring Hill High School, Jerry worked for an implement dealer and on the family farm until 1958, at which time he joined the US Army. Jerry served as a medic for the 1st Cavalry.

On June 3, 1961, Jerry met Theresa Biewen on a blind date, and that began a lifelong relationship. Jerry & Theresa were married on September 15, 1962 and recently celebrated 59 years of marriage. To this union 3 children were born.

While family was Jerry's first love, farming was Jerry's second love. Jerry worked many years for agriculture implement dealers and returned every night to tend to his crops and his beloved cattle. Jerry enjoyed working on tractors as much as he enjoyed driving them; he restored many tractors of various makes and models during his retirement. Jerry also enjoyed watching various sporting events, especially any games involving his children and grandchildren!

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings and his son-in-law. Jerry is survived by his wife, Theresa, his daughter Carolyn, son Steven (Steffani), son Jeffery (Nichol), 3 grandchildren Lauren (Clint), Hannah (Zach), Blake and 4 great grandchildren. In addition, Jerry is survived by 2 sisters, Rosemary & Diane and his sister-in-law Joanne, not to mention various cousins, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements will be taken care of by O'Leary Funeral home in Norwalk, Iowa and St. John's Catholic Church, also in Norwalk. Interment will be at Webb Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations, in Jerry's name, may be made to Kavanagh House or the St. John the Apostle Altar and Rosary Society.
