In the death of Mr. Thomas W. Cumpton, aged 77 years, one of the oldest native born citizens of Richland parish has been called to his reward. Following an illness of several months Mr. Cumpton passed away at his home one half-mile south of town, on Tuesday evening at 8:05 o'clock. Funeral services at the residence, conducted by Rev. J. T. Harris, of the Rayville Methodist Church, were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and the burial followed in the old Horn graveyard, two and one-half miles southwest of Rayville, where other members of the family rest.

The active pallbearers were Ernest Greer, D. Eubanks, John Henry Eubanks, Lionel Eubanks, Charles Moore and W. H. Brister. The honorary pallbearers were A. A. Abell, E. B. Lipscomb, H. A. Mangham, Walter Graves, J. W. Summerlin and J. C. Salmon.

Funeral arrangements were in charge of Mulhearn's Funeral Home of Rayville.

The deceased is survived by his widow; six son, Lem S., Jasper, Tom, Jim, Horace and Ed Cumpton; and five daughters, Mrs. J. A. Eubanks, Mrs. Pat Hodges, Mrs. Milton Davis, Misses Ruth and Carrie Mae Cumpton.

Mr. Cumpton was born near where he lived at the time of death more than seventy-seven years ago, and has made Rayville and vicinity his home all of his life. He was a member of one of the oldest and largest families of the parish. He engaged in farming and stock-raising.
