Elizabeth "Tootey" L. Richards Chambers 88, of Martinsville, peacefully passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at her home.

She was born on Friday, June 2, 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Fred M. and Gladys (Shipp) Stewart. Tootey was raised in Dogtown and attended Manual Highschool.

On December 4, 1953, Tootey married Rev. Donald E. Richards of Martinsville, Indiana and had two children, Daniel E. Richards and Rebecca L. Cooper. Don and Tootey owned the Richard's General Store from 1964 to 1975 and then she worked as a Secretary for the State of Indiana Housing and Urban Development division until her retirement in 1995. Tootey graduated from the House of James Cosmetology Beauty College.

Tootey was a member of the Highland Creek Baptist Church, a former member of the Bridgeport Friends Church, and an honorary member of the Willow Grove Nazarene Church. She was a talented pianist, singer, and accordion player. In her teenage years, she enjoyed singing in a group that traveled to churches throughout Indiana. She was also a member of the Heart of Indiana Chorus Group that performed nationwide.

Survivors are her daughter, Rebecca L. Cooper; siblings, Jerry Stewart, David Stewart, Thomas Stewart, Delores Pijuit and Debra Higgs; grandchildren, Sasha Novak, Lydia McDaniel, Eli Richards and Megan Ferguson; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

Tootey was preceded in death by her first husband Rev. Donald E. Richards, who passed away on June 22, 2005; her second husband, Charles N. Chambers, whom she was married to from December 7, 2014 until his passing on November 29, 2018; her son, Daniel E. Richards; parents, Fred and Gladys Stewart; sister, Patricia Dennis.

Visitation will be held at Costin Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Graveside services for immediate family will be held at Nebo Memorial Park on Thursday January 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Brother J.C. Phillips officiating.
