Fred Marion Stewart, 87, died Jan. 25, 2003 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Crystal City, MO. Calling at Fountain Square Mortuary, Wed. Jan. 29, 2003, 10:00 a.m. until service 12 Noon, with Rev. Jay C. Phillips, Wesleyan Christian Church, officating. Burial Bethel Cemetery. Fred was born Oct. 4, 1915 in Johnson County, IN. Son of the late Ralph and Verdi Stewart. Fred is a decendent of the early settlers in Indiana. His Great-great grandfather, Franklin Hardin, served three years in the House of Representatives and six years as a Senator. When elected a delegate in 1850, he was instrumental in writing our Indiana State Constitution, thus having the distinguished honor of being a State Senator and a delegate both at the same time. Fred was educated in the public schools of Johnson and Marion Counties in Indiana, and attended Manual High School. Fred met Gladys Shipp and on Aug. 29, 1932 they were married. A teenager at the time, Fred worked for the gardeners for seven dollars a week. He pursued various vocations and was the owner of a restaurant and gas station, pool room, lumberyard, and he also owned and operated a fleet of semi trucks. For a short time he was a Las Vegas Casino Dealer. He was in the Excavating business before he retired. He owned and operated cranes, dozers, hi-lifts, backhoes and other heavy equipment. A brother, Carl Daniel "Bill" Stewart and a sister, Mavis Maxine Adams, preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his death, Daughters: Elizabeth "Tootey" Richards, Martinsville, IN; Patricia Ann Dennis, Delores Jean Pijut, Desoto, MO; Deborah Ann Murry. Sons: Jerry Lee Stewart, Italy, TX; David Lynn Stewart, Sheridan, IN; Thomas Ray Stewart, 16 Grandchildren, 23 Great-grandchildren, 2 Great-great grandchildren
