Roy Mounts Passes Away At Age 57 ---Roy Mounts, 57, resident of near Gideon, passed away on Sunday at the Poplar Bluff Hospital. He had suffered a stroke December 14th. Graveside rites took place Tuesday afternoon at the Stanfield Cemetery, with the Rev. William Hopkins, Pastor, First Baptist Church, in charge. He has no survivors.
Roy had one daughter, Alene Mounts McCallum Paris, who was the informant on his death certificate.
Roy was a farmer, son of Benjamin Franklin Mounts and Catherine Mullens/Mullins. In 1903, at the age of six, he was kicked by a horse and was blinded in his left eye, and face was cut badly. When Benjamin died in 1906, the children were placed in the Knox County Orphans Home in Vincennes. All of their children, Vada May Mounts White, Gladys E Mounts Zimmerman, Ora Ellen (Eleanor) Mounts Benefield Markley and Minnie Mounts/Myrtle Goshorn Stribler, and Homer William Mounts were placed in foster homes, Homer running away several times to finally join the Navy in WWI lying about his age saying he was 18 instead of 16 . Their mother remarried but was never allowed to bring home her children but records would indicate that they reconciled with their mother at some point. Roy married Bessie Caples, they had one child, Alene Mounts McCallum Parris, who lived in Chicago at the time of his death. Alene divorced and moved back to Pemiscot county Missouri. Roy divorced and never remarried, Bessie married a Jesse Daniel Hall in 1942 in Missouri, when he died she married Dennis C Warren.
