Chandlerville, IL - Oakleigh R. "Stony" Adkins, Jr, 76, of 11746 E CR 300 N, Chandlerville, passed away at 1:10 pm Tues. May 23, 2006 at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia, IL.

He was born Sept. 8, 1929 in Jacksonville, IL the son of Oakleigh and Dorothy Cooper Adkins. He married Catherine Maggos Oct. 16, 1949 in Alton, IL and she survives.

Mr. Adkins was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Chandlerville, Mason County Farm Bureau, Chandlerville Legion Post and a commissioner of the Farmer's Drainage District. He farmed his entire life and for several years his farm was used as a test program for the pickup truck division of Chevrolet. He was a graduate of Western Military Academy, the University of Illinois at Champaign and a member of Phi Delta Theta fraturnity. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He is survived by one son, Rocky (Becky) Adkins; one daughter, Nancy Adkins; and two grandchildren Nathan J. and Taylor R. Adkins of Chandlerville and one step-grandson, Andrew (Kim) Wright of Columbia, MO. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Deborah and his parents.

Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery near Chandlerville.
